When and why was your interest in art born?
My interest in art was born when I was young and attended elementary
school in my village.
My mother was an elementary school teacher and suggested that I enter different drawing competitions, which did with joy and dedication; From then on I dream of dedicating a great part of my life to art.
Are there any artists who have influenced you more than others in the realisation of your engravings?
As a student at the Accademia di Belli Arti, I was very much struck by Kate Kolgwis's profundity of themes; Rembrandt and Goya struck me for their discipline and mastery of different engraving techniques; Kandinsky, the Impressionists and the Spanish Mirò for gaiety of colours; While, among the Italians, I appreciate Giotto, Tiziano and Botticelli, and among contemporary Italian artists; E.Dova, Morandi, Giacometti.
How do you choose the subjects of your works?
Generally after a journey there is some image which strikes me, which remains in my memory, so I draw it, see it again and elaborate it with the most suitable technique, extending and changing the colours. In the end, after some trials with the chalcographic press, I find different drawings which correspond to the sense of the "first" idea that I had in mind.
How would you describe the essential characteristics of your works?
Definitely I should say simplicity and essentialness, united in strong colours and a clear concise message.
In your first works what is the relationship between engraving and colours?
First there is the drawing using an "acquaforte" technique, which is always a "SIGN".
In the second phase I use colour, very often, seeking to soften the image, which helps me to reach the observer.
