Renzo Piano was born in Genoa on 14 September, 1937 from a family of builders.
He graduated at the school of Architecture, Milan Polytechnic, in1964 and begin to work on development of shell spatial structures, recognizing as his own teacher Jean Prouvè.
In the later Sixties, his projects are published on important architectures magazines "Domus" and "Casabella"; this, enables him to gain faim and realize the pavilion of Italian industry in the "Osaka's expo", in 1969.
In 1971 together with Richard Rogers he founds the society "Piano & Rogers" and from 1977, creates with Peter Rice the "Piano & Rice Associates", In these years he realizes his most discussed project, the "Center Georges Pompidou" almost one hundred thousand mq in the center of Paris, reputed a Manifest of Hig - Tech architecture in seventeen years.
In 1981, he founds the Renzo Piano Building Workshop to study technologies and materials in the vanguard, at the same time, he receive many international acknowledgments: Lègion d'honneur (1985), The Riba Royal Gold for Architecture (1989), and from 1994, is a UNESCO ambassador for architecture.
