It is with great pleasure that we write to share the highlights of a forthcoming gallery program that includes exceptional concurrent gallery solo shows with Mark Manders and Nicole Wermers, as well as our participation in the Armory Show 2007.
Opening February 17th in Gallery 1, Mark Manders will show a selection of large-scale sculptures, installations, and works on paper that conceptually elaborate on past bodies of work, focusing on themes of presence, absence and identity. Mysterious and evocative, the pieces are in Manders' own words, "still lives with broken moments". Exhibited widely both in the US and abroad, in 2007 Manders will show at Kunsthaus, Zurich; SMAK, Ghent; and Kunstverein, Hanover.
His recent exhibitions include, Short Sad Thoughts, Baltic, Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle, Gateshead, UK, 2006 (solo); Parallel Occurrence, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, 2005 (solo); The Absence of Mark Manders, Matrix 214, Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley, 2005 (solo); among others. Mark Manders' exhibition is made possible by a financial contribution from the Mondriaan Foundation, Amsterdam.
Also opening February 17, Nicole Wermers will present Doors and Bouncers, an exhibition of new sculpture and collage in Gallery 2. These new pieces fuse formal aspects of modernism with the glamorously superficial aesthetics of consumer culture, furthering Wermers' investigation of the corporate strategies that shape society's behavior. Living and working in London, Nicole Wermers' recent exhibitions include Earring, public sculpture project, Camden Arts Centre, London, 2006 (solo); Around The World In 80 Days, ICA London and South London Gallery, 2006 (group); Tate Triennal curated by Beatrix Ruf, Tate Britain, London, 2006 (group); The Subversive Charm Of The Bourgeoisie, Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven, 2006 (group); Nicole Wermers, Camden Arts Centre, London, 2005 (solo); and Chemie, Secession, Vienna, 2004 (solo); among others.
We are also very pleased to announce our participation in the Armory Show 2007, opening with a private viewing on Thursday February 22, and continuing through Monday February 26th. Located in booth 1002, at the fair's new venue on Pier 94, 12th Avenue at 55th Street, the gallery will show a selection of new work by gallery artists including: Uta Barth, Martin Boyce, Mark Dion, Olafur Eliasson, Sabine Hornig, Ian Kiaer, Carla Klein, Mark Manders, Ernesto Neto, Rivane Neuenschwander, Peggy Preheim, Thomas Scheibitz, Dirk Stewen, and Nicole Wermers.
