Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller Gallery is pleased to present Franco-American artist Alexandre Charriol in his highly anticipated second solo show of haunting conceptual sculptures entitled Not All Babies Go to Heaven.
Charriol's highly anticipated new series of sculptures created in his Chelsea studio provide a personal reflection on the life of a 20-something international scion in 21st century New York. His theme of chaotic interactions of young adulthood and issues of contemporary New York society continues with his sobering view of babies as objects.
Jonathan T. D. Neil writes:" His works are, to say the least, 'perverse', but this does not stop them from being 'humorous' as well as 'biting', 'horrible' as well as 'imaginative', a bit 'creepy', no doubt 'silly', sometimes 'tasteless' and, at other times, perhaps even a little 'endearing'".
Alexandre Charriol, a member of the Charriol family, was born in Hawaii and studied alternatively at the Parsons School of Design, Tufts University, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and Northeastern University, before setting up his own studio in New York. Since 1999, he has had a number of sold-out national and international exhibitions at the Yoshii Gallery in Paris, the Ayala Museum in Manila and at the Kee Club and Art Statements Gallery in Hong Kong. This marks Charriol's second solo show at the Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller Gallery.
