Remo Remotti was born 16 th November 1924 in the middle class Rome. He was an only child; his father died when he was 12 years old, and his relationship with his mother was to leave a mark on his private and professional life. He graduated in Law, then in the 50's emigrated to Perù, almost in flight from a closed ambience, and stayed there for about seven years. He took up various trades, and above all discovered a passion for art, attending evening schools in Lima.
On his return to Italy he worked in Milan with a pharmaceutical company Lepetit, where he remained only a short tilme, contemplating his own potentialties, planning other experiences. In 1960 he married Maria Luisa Loy, sister of the celebrated director. The stay in Milan continued for years, also thanks to a bursury for artists, and there he began to breathe the cultural climate of the age(Fontana, Manzoni, etc.) After a brief period in Rome, he left for Germany, where he lived from 1968 to 1971 and where he breathed the intellectual ferment that was sweeping Europe. He became an assistant in the studio of Emilio Vedova. In this period, however, his marriage ran into trouble, and broke up so it was difficult to mend.
Settled definitely in Italy, he began the to write plays , as well as act, thanks
to his friend Renato Mambor who introduced him to the theatre of Alberico and Alberichino. Here he met Marco Bellocchio, who a little later directed him in The Seagull, of Chechov.
Other parts in films followed, up to the meeting with Nanni Moretti which led in 1981 to his most celebrated performance, as Freud in "Sweet dreams". Also with Moretti, he took part in "Bianca," where he played the neighbour of Siro Siri and in "Palombella Rossa," the part of alter ego of the trainer. Remotti continued painting, exhibiting among other things at the Quadriennale di Roma.
He worked then with Carlo Mazzacurati in "Notta italiana " - and on the set he met his second wife, Luisa Pistoia - with Ettore Scola, the Taviani brothers, Nanny Loy, Aurelio Grimaldi, Maurizio Nichetti, Enzo de Caro, Christian De Sica, Francesco Nuti, Carlo Verdone, Silvio Soldoni. In 1989 his first and only child was born, Federica.
Today he appears in live shows, continuing his career as actor, painter, writer.
