PATRICK BESSON

Marilyn Monroe non è morta (Marilyn Monroe is not dead)

Author: Ilaria Piperno

United States, 1989. Patrick Besson, famous French writer, arrives in the out of the way city of Bridgeport, together with his friend Christian Augé. Here he finds himself looking at a woman whose features are unmistakable: Marilyn Monroe.
So begins the journey -first mental then real- on the tracks of what seems to be Marilyn Monroe, or her exact double. What secret does this woman, now in retirement, hide - who adores French cooking? Is this really the famous icon of American cinema?
Through a series of extraordinary and unforseeable episodes, exalted by his creative and carefree vien, Besson transports us into the emotional and mental world of Marilyn, evoking the phantasies that she has always aroused in us. With ironic and irreverent tone, the author proposes an alternative reality in which Marilyn Monroe is not dead, John Kennedy has not been assassinated and the Americans have not yet landed on the moon.
An entertaining and mocking book, at times slightly nostalgic, which attempts to give a distinctly romantic, though bitter, explanation of the presumed death of Marilyn Monroe, which remains a mystery in the history of Hollywood.
