NICOLA ANDRIOLI

Jazz Musician

In my opinion music is something totally abstract and at the same time a process of synthesis with a rational train of thought.
Research is the motor of my creativity: thanks to my creativity I discover a reality that needs to be described in its complexity through an ever changing musical language.

Art needs to recognise my intimate thoughts and I am constantly urged to widen my horizons, to find it in my heart.
I discover a sound in silence and a new dream within a sound.
I don't know when I began my musical adventure -maybe it was my father's dreams (he was a musician - saxophonist) even before I was born.

I believe 'incipit' contains the real sense of things, even if a reality like life, so complex, goes forward articulated by the rules of causality.
I was 5 or 6 years old when I first saw a piano, and since that day I've never stopped moving my fingers over the magic keyboard.
Today, in spite of many years of study and 'satisfaction', my biggest emotion is always when I re-discover a sense of the new and unknown that the 12 notes are able to arouse in me, just as when I was a child.
Thanks to my studies, history has become an important part of my cultural lugguage, allowing me to move forwards and backwards in time: among classical and contemporary music, and forward to my own compositions of today.

Writing music has become a necessity: giving voice to my fantasies and realizing musical compositions that are the fruit of a harmonic melody, but always connected with an emotion: compositions require method and sensibility but feelings are fundamental. It is the same thing for improvisations: compositions realized in a short time must always be done with passion, since this involves a dialogue with yourself and the musicians you work with.
Art demands dedication. Music is like architecture. I would like to quote the words of a great architect 'Le Corbusier' that have profoundly influenced me.

In Life we need to operate,
re-act with modesty,
exactness, precision
the only atmosphere possible
for the creation of an artist
with regularity, continuity
and?perseverance. The only thing
transmittable is thought
the noble part of the fruit of work.
This thought
can become or not become
a victory over destiny
in the world after death
and assume maybe
another unforeseeable dimension.
