With a collection of Dancer/Choreographers from seven countries and four continents, the third annual Dance Omi International Dance Collective promises to bring exciting artistic and cultural exchange to the campus of the Omi International Arts Center in Ghent, New York this summer. Under the direction of the Dance Omi Director Christopher K. Morgan, and this summer’s Guest Mentor, Vincent Thomas (a 2005 Alumnus of Dance Omi), 10 international Dance Artists will gather on the campus of the Omi International Arts Center from August 22 through September 10 to explore collaboration. This three-week collaborative process will culminate in 2 informal showings (both are free and open to the public):
September 8, 3-5 pm at the Omi International Arts Center in Ghent, New York
September 10, 6-7 pm at Dance Theater Workshop in New York City

Presented as part of the 13th Annual DancenOw/NYC Festival, the New York showing is the continuation of an exciting partnership for Dance Omi with DancenOw/NYC, an organization that is committed to providing opportunities to artists at all stages of their careers. These two events will be an informal chance for the residents to share their process of collaboration with the community, and an exciting opportunity for audiences to see dance from literally all over the world.
In his second year as director of Dance Omi, Morgan is looking forward to deepening the experience of this year’s selected artists, working closely with the guest mentor to facilitate a safe environment that will foster creative exchange among the Dance Artists. Uninterrupted by the normal constraints of lack of space, time or other artists with whom to work, the richness of this residency lies in the fact that it is truly an exploration. The collective is a model of process and community building, that strives to have repercussions on a scale beyond that of the art making.
Not only geographically diverse, this year’s residents bring expertise in numerous dance forms to the residency. Modern, Contemporary, Classical Indian Kathak Dance, Japanese Kagura, Traditional Korean Dance, Argentine Tango, Tai-chi Chuan and Contact Improvisation are just some of the influences that were apparent in the applications of this year’s residents.
